BURNHAM FOOTBALL CLUB Burnham play at the unattractively named “The Gore” which they have shared with the locl cricket club since 1920. As a result of this, the ground remains three-sided. The only cover has been the 250 seater stand which was constructed in 1948, but major changes are now in progress. In November it was announced that the work on the final phase of the development was about to start. Contractors’ offices, store rooms etc. had arrived and the building of a new stand, offices and function rooms was starting immediately. The contractors had made electricity and water connections to the site. The completion of the works was stated as scheduled for the Spring, so we should find that this has been carried out by the time we visit. This construction is the final stage of developments that have seen a new pitch, state of the art floodlights, perimeter fencing and new paths already installed. The pitch improvements have been used as part of Topturf Irrigation Engineering Ltd.’s advertising programme, showing the range of their interests, which have included irrigation systems at Chelsea and work at Tottenham, Southampton and West Ham. It will be interesting to see how all these works are coming together.
