CORBY TOWN In 1985 Corby Town felt that their future was bright when they moved into the brand new Rockingham Triangle athletics stadium. The potential was shown by an attendance of 2240 for a pre season friendly with Watford in 1986. However, the move has illustrated some of the difficulties of relocating out of town and multi sports facilities. Without success on the pitch it is difficult to get people to travel out of town and watch football across eight lanes of athletics track. The Rockingham Triangle Stadium appears to be a more attractive away trip than our previous encounters with grounds housing tracks, at Harlow and Team Bath, because it is a more imposing stadium. The ground has an impressive main stand and seats 960 supporters, with total cover available for 1150. For a track stadium to work it is vital to have a stand with some elevation to provide a decent view of the game, and Corby certainly provides this. With gates falling below 100 recently we may feel we are rattling around a bit in the large stand, but it will be one of the more developed grounds we visit this season. |
