ROTHWELL TOWN

The historic Cecil Street ground. It was opened in 1896, and as with several of our Southern League rivals it has developed piecemeal through time, mostly due to windfalls and disasters. The disaster struck in 1959 when the main stand burnt down, but the club used this as an opportunity to realign the pitch to give more space to develop the ground. A key windfall was the generous financial donation from near neighbours Kettering Town helping in the construction of the replacement main stand - oh how football has changed!

Seated fans may have to be aware that the erection of floodlights in 1982 resulted in a pylon right in front of the stand and an obscured view for some. While another section of interested travelling fans may be the train-spotters, because the building at the entrance is apparently a converted railway carriage.
