YATE TOWN

This is one of our more local trips, so I hope a few of you will be able to make it to give the players a boost.

I don’t think anyone from Yate would be offended if I described their football ground as unremarkable. It has a tidy clubhouse, a tidy little stand, and is surrounded by tidily clipped tall evergreen trees.

If I remember correctly, the pitch seemed pretty heavy the last time I visited Lodge Road, though that could have been the drizzle or the disappointing game, but my impression is that it is one of the larger playing areas we see, which should help an open game.

It is not the cosiest football ground, so bring your thermals and waterproofs if the weather looks doubtful.

At a time of generally falling football crowds, my impression is that Yate are doing quite well on this front, obviously due to some recent encouraging league form and some fine FA Trophy results.

Directions

From M4 - leave M4 at Junction 18, enter Yate on A432 via Chipping Sodbury by-pass. Turn right at first small roundabout (Link Road), straight over next roundabout into Goose Green Way, over two more roundabouts and two sets of lights turning right at third set of lights then immediately left into Lodge Road - ground is 200 metres on right.

From M5: exit Junction 14, B4509/B4060 to Chipping Sodbury. Turn right at Chipping Sodbury High Street, down Bowling Hill and then turn right at first major roundabout in Yate (Goose Green Way), then as above
