It was disappointment for Taunton as they kicked off the new season with a 3-2 defeat at Winchester City yesterday afternoon (18 August). A poor first half looked to be ending goalless until the hosts took the lead on 39 minutes through Leigh Mills. Town were not at their best on a bumpy pitch but looked to have salvaged a point when Rodney Marsh equalised after 82 minutes, slotting the ball past Rory Anderson from Simon Ingram's pass. Hopes were dashed however when Winchester scored again through Michael Charles on 88 minutes and Tom Dunford on time. Marsh scored his second goal in injury time but to no avail. Post-match comment: Town manager Leigh Robinson said:"Obviously we are disappointed to lose the game but we were more disappointed that it was such an unenjoyable game to watch and to play in due to the shocking standard of the pitch which made the match a lottery. I was pleased with our effort and intensity but we lost concentration at key times which cost us the game."
