TOWN BEGIN FA CUP CAMPAIGN

It’s FA Cup action today (25 August) for Taunton when they travel to play Paulton Rovers in the Preliminary Round, kick-off 3.00pm. Town have enjoyed little recent success in the competition, having not advanced beyond the First Qualifying round for six years, and will face a tricky tie at League rivals Paulton who reached the First Round Proper three years ago before losing to Norwich City. The winners of the tie will be away to either Gillingham Town or Bishop Sutton, both of the Toolstation League, on September 8th.

Town will unfortunately be missing unavailable centre half Ben Mammola who has enjoyed a fine start to the season, but his absence gives the opportunity to Neil Peek to make his full debut. Tom Hopkins and Corey Lewis are added to the squad which otherwise remains unchanged from the first two League matches.  Manager Leigh Robinson remarked:” It’s a tough draw but we’ll be going there confident after a good battling display against Poole. Obviously the FA Cup is important in terms of finance and prestige so we will be going all out to win. I think it’s fair to say that we will be second favourites for the game but this worked in our favour against Poole and we will be hoping to go one better tomorrow.”

Should the tie end in a draw, the replay will be at Wordsworth Drive on Tuesday evening (28 August), kick-off 7.45pm, meaning Town’s visit to Tiverton on Bank Holiday Monday will be postponed. The match will suffer the same fate if Tiverton draw their tie at Clevedon Town.
