SECOND HALF TURNAROUND SEES TOWN THROUGH

Taunton progressed to the next round of the FA Cup after a thrilling 3-2 Preliminary Round replay victory over Paulton Rovers at Wordsworth Drive this evening (28 August). Prospects had not appeared promising when Town found themselves 2-0 down with less than 20 minutes played. Marcus Mapstone fired home a loose ball from six yards after only five minutes to give the visitors the lead and James Vincent capitalised on some slack defending to score again on 18 minutes. Taunton pulled one back a minute before the break when captain Simon Ingram scored from the penalty spot after a foul on Craig Herrod. The second half saw a revitalised Town in the ascendancy and Ingram pulled the scores level on 64 minutes when his shot deflected off Rob Norrish and into the net past a wrong-footed Kyle Phillips. After Herrod had missed a good chance, he made amends by running onto Ingram's through ball and slotting home a cool finish on 85 minutes. Jamie Short nearly made it four soon after but his effort went agonisingly past the post. Match report now online.

Taunton will now travel to Toolstation League side Gillingham Town in the First Qualifying Round on September 8th.

Post-match comment: Town manager Leigh Robinson said:" We are of course delighted to be in the next round but what pleased me more was the performance and bravery of the players. Having had a poor first 20 minutes and gone two goals down it would have been easy for the players to panic, play long or go hiding but we showed courage to keep getting on the ball and passing which made it a good game to watch and I thought we fully deserved the win on the night".
