PEACOCKS VISIT LEAGUE NEWCOMERS

Taunton will be hoping to maintain their promising start to the season when they travel to play Shortwood United tomorrow evening (4 September), kick-off 7.45pm. Town have never previously visited Shortwood who were promoted to the Evo-Stik League after finishing as runners-up in the Hellenic League Premier Division last season.

The Gloucestershire side, based on the outskirts of Nailsworth, drew their opening fixture at home to Wimborne but have since lost league games at Merthyr and Sholing, and been knocked out the FA Cup by Highworth. However Town manager Leigh Robinson is fully aware that this will count for nothing tomorrow: "We'll be going there full of confidence after the last few results but knowing that we will be facing a real challenge as they will be really up for it having had a tricky start. We have a lot to play for though with places in the side at stake for Saturday's FA Cup game plus another win would put us in a good league position despite it being very early."

Town's squad is still being finalised but one player who will not be featuring is Dean Stamp who has left the club after joining during pre-season. Robinson commented:" Dean found that he couldn't commit to the level required to play at this standard so is going back to play locally. He is a cracking lad though and we wish him all the best."
