A penalty three minutes from time saw Taunton go down 2-1 to Tiverton Town at Ladysmead yesterday evening (25 September). The first half saw Taunton under the cosh as the home side dominated play, eventually taking the lead on 28 minutes. Following a stoppage for treatment to Rob Norrish, Town switched off when play resumed, allowing an unmarked Joe Bushin to net a header on the near post from a Lewis Tasker corner, who came close himself with a free kick. Taunton improved greatly after the break and got back into the game after 76 minutes when Tiverton sub Michael Nardiello fouled Rodney Marsh in the box, with Marsh striking the spot kick past Chris Wright. Craig Mawford then stung Wright's hands with a shot from 25 yards but just when it appeared Town would leave with at least a point, Owen Irish was adjudged to have tripped Nardiello who converted the subsequent penalty. Irish was then dismissed following an off the ball incident with Nardiello as the players walked back for the restart. Match report now online.
Post-match comment: Town manager Leigh Robinson remarked: " It's incredibly frustrating to lose a third away league game in a row where we were in a position to get a point but due to lack of concentration end up with nothing. Tiverton dominated the first half, we dominated the second but have gifted them a win late on with poor concentration. That said, I was happy with the character we showed in the second half and provided we can learn lessons from this we'll be fine as no-one is dominating us and we're well in contention in every game." |
