TAUNTON CRASH TO YATE DEFEAT

Taunton's performance matched the dank miserable weather as they endured a 5-2 beating by Yate Town at Wordsworth Drive this evening (9 October). The Peacocks had enjoyed the brighter start with Jamie Short hitting the crossbar but it was the visitors who snatched the lead with a Tom Knighton penalty on 12 minutes after Matt Groves had been brought down by Gary Saunders. Knighton was then allowed to turn in the box to put Yate 2-0 up on 24 minutes, with Knighton then the provider as he was given too much space on the right to pass the ball into Mitchell Page whose mishit effort still found the corner of the net afer 26 minutes. Knighton hit the bar before more abject defending saw Groves waltz through to tuck home a fourth and a free kick from Jake Cox then skimmed the bar.

Town pulled a goal back on 47 minutes when Andy Robertson headed in a Craig Herrod corner but any joy was short-lived when Scott Thomas shot across Connor Sidley-Adams from beyond the right post to make it 5-1 two minutes later. A foul on Rodney Marsh gave Simon Ingram the chance to reduce the arrears with a penalty on 79 minutes but it was far too little, far too late. Match report now online.

Post-match comment: Town manager Leigh Robinson said:" We always knew it would be a tough ask with so many defensive unavailabilities but to capitulate how we did was unacceptable. We played like strangers for 45 minutes and were so poor in our own box it was frightening."
