Taunton Town Results Match Review
Tuesday 10 October 2017
AFC Totton v Taunton Town
2 - 1 aet

The Peacocks progressed to the First Qualifying Round of the Buildbase FA Trophy with a hard earned win at Testwood Park.

The first real chance to fall Taunton’s way came after 19 minutes but Ross Staley’s lob was narrowly off target. Four minutes later the home side could have taken the lead but Charlie Gunson was foiled by a brilliant double save by Peacocks keeper Lloyd Irish.

Taunton took the lead after 34 minutes when a well worked move involving Matt Wright, Dan Sullivan and Les Afful led to a left foot finish by Pierce Mitchell. The lead could have been doubled three minutes from the break but Ryan Brett's header was cleared off the line by Patrick Nolan.

As in the first game on Saturday Totton came out fighting in the second half and the equaliser came just eight minutes after the break when Gunson let fly from 20 yards, giving Irish no chance. The Peacocks were denied on 62 minutes when a shot by debutant Sullivan was fumbled into the net by home keeper Shane Murphy but an offside flag saw the goal chalked off.

Both sides had chances to seal victory, Irish making another good save from a free kick by Tobi Adekunle, but extra time beckoned and right at the end of the first period substitute Omar Simpson hit the bar and Staley shot home from the rebound. In the second extra period Simpson had a shot saved by Murphy and the Peacocks comfortably saw out the game to earn a home tie with Merthyr Town on 28 October.
