Taunton Town Results Match Review

Bovey Tracey v Taunton Town
4 - 0

Town brought their schedule of friendlies to a close with a straightforward win over the Peninsula League outfit. The gulf between the teams was evident with the Peacocks forging themselves a host of opportunities and would probably have scored more in full match mode.

Town had a couple of early penalty appeals ignored as they tried to impose themselves on their hosts. Matt Wright’s header was parried by Bovey keeper Matt Bojar with Lewis Powell just unable to connect with the rebound while Arran Pugh and Powell both directed headers off target. The Moorlanders were not without chances of their own, former Peacock Joe Bushin slotting wide from Dan Taylor’s free kick and Gavin Collins drilling a dangerous ball across the face of goal.

Les Afful spurned a chance to break the deadlock when he lobbed over after being put in the clear from Shane White’s free kick. Wright fired over following a neat phase between Afful and Ryan Brett, and Ben Adelsbury’s header suffered the same fate. Bovey however finally succumbed six minutes before the break. Lloyd Irish sent a free kick into the box, Wright nodded on to Powell who turned to shoot past Bojar via a slight deflection off Taylor.

The Peacocks continued the offensive after the interval. Afful came close, then Pugh’s header skimmed off the bar from Brett’s corner and Wright headed over. Ross Staley, who had replaced Owen Irish at half time, eventually added number two after 51 minutes, advancing to rifle home a strike from 25 yards. Numerous other attempts followed as Brett’s shot from the left of the box was held, as were further efforts from Wright and Staley.

Powell claimed his second goal of the evening on 78 minutes when he dispossessed Bojar and was pulled down from behind. The returning striker sent Bojar the wrong way as he stroked home the penalty with the minimum of fuss. Another seemingly stonewall penalty after Craig Duff was tripped was waved away before Bovey had their only clearcut chance of the half, Callum Leach racing clear but lobbing the wrong side of the post. Wright added a fourth goal three minutes from time, heading home Ollie Chamberlain’s perfect cross from the right, leaving the Peacocks to count down the days until the big kick-off.
