With nearest challengers Weymouth and Salisbury both engaged in the FA Trophy, Taunton had an opportunity to return to the top of the table and they did just that, despite falling behind in the first half.
The home side went ahead after 20 minutes – a run by CJ Pearn found Marc Charles-Smith and his pass led to a turn and shot by Reggie Young.
The lead lasted just six minutes before Andrew Neal passed the ball to returning skipper Matt Wright who in turn crossed for Dan Sullivan to turn the ball into the net. It got better for the Peacocks after 37 minutes when Matt Buse was brought down by Michael Kamara. Referee Michael Smith pointed to the spot and Andrew Neal tucked away the penalty.
Five minutes later Taunton extended their lead when Andrew Neal latched onto a poor back pass by Kamara and beat home keeper Liam Beach.
Farnborough did not give up and in first half injury time Charles-Smith had a shot saved by Taunton keeper Lloyd Irish.
Chances were harder to come by in the second half but Matt Wright had a chance to increase the lead after 66 minutes having been brought down by Ugo Udogi but Beach saved Wright’s penalty.
Farnborough continued to make a game of it and after 74 minutes a deflected shot by Connor Cullen hit the post.
Three minutes from time the returning Ed Palmer hit a shot just wide but another goal always looked likely and substitute Craig Veal obliged in injury time by getting the better of a one on one situation with Beach.
Attention now turns to Wednesday night’s home clash with Salisbury, which should see another decent attendance at the Viridor Stadium.
