Taunton kept their diminishing title hopes alive, hanging on to a very early goal for a laboured win against industrious Poole Town.
The Peacocks raced into a first minute lead. The Poole defence was still in the metaphoric dressing room when Ryan Brett whipped a free kick behind the statuesque back line allowing Andrew Neal plenty of room to lash his shot past the advancing keeper Luke Cairney.
Ollie Chamberlain and Matt Buse both had shots blocked, and Matt Wright an offside goal disallowed, as Taunton threatened to double the lead. However, Poole got stronger as the half progressed with both Marvin Brooks and Jamie Whisken going close. Their best chance came when trickery down the right flank by Jez Bedford created another opening for Brooks, but the midfielder fired into the side netting.
The Dolphins were still on top in the early stages of the second period. Experienced striker James Constable had their best chance to level, but Lloyd Irish raced off the line to save with his legs. Their chances of salvaging a point though suffering a huge blow when captain Whisken, already on a yellow card, clattered Buse and was dismissed for a second booking.
Even with ten men, Poole still had the better of the closing stages with Constable and substitute Jake Scrimshaw both going close, but Taunton just held out for a first win in five league games.
