The Dorset weather proved to be the winner in this tough encounter with wind and rain both contributing to spoil a hard game as a spectacle.
Ryan Brett’s free kick after 10 minutes presented Ed Palmer with a chance but his header went just over the bar. At the other end Luke Burbidge fired over just three minutes later.
The Brett-Palmer combination nearly proved lethal after 16 minutes but on this occasion Palmer’s header hit the crossbar.
Top scorer Andrew Neal had a good chance after 24 minutes but his shot was straight at home keeper Gerard Benfield. One minute later Luke Holmes had a chance for Wimborne but Taunton keeper Lloyd Irish, playing his first full game of 2019, made a comfortable save.
Neal had two further opportunities in the first half – after 32 minutes his shot was deflected for a corner and nine minutes later he missed an open goal from Ryan Brett’s corner.
At the start of the second half Ryan Brett and Pierce Mitchell both shot over from long range and Neal had a shot saved by Benfield after 56 minutes.
Wimborne were not out of it and a Burbidge shot was deflected by Keith Emmerson for a corner which came to nothing.
The rain came down heavily in the second half and began to affect the game but the home side eventually broke the deadlock after 72 minutes when Burbidge played in prolific scorer Tobias Holmes who rounded Irish and slotted the ball home.
The lead lasted just six minutes and the equalizer was the result of a good move which culminated in Matt Buse crossing for Ollie Chamberlain to head home.
The Peacocks had the better of the closing stages and Neal had another shot blocked by Benfield. In the last minute of normal time Keith Emmerson had a shot deflected for a corner but in the end both side had to settle for a draw.
