The Peacocks slipped to their third away defeat in the Evo-Stik League this season when they lost 1-0 at Poole Town this afternoon (13th October).

Town can have no complaints about the result after a performance which was a pale shadow of Wednesday’s terrific FA Cup win over St Albans. Although there were few openings in the first half Poole took the clear one that came along after 27 minutes when Corby Moore crossed from the left for the unmarked Marvin Brooks to head home the only goal of the game. The Peacocks’ best chance of the half came with a free kick on the edge of the box but Andrew Neal fired over. The second period belonged to the hosts with Town creating little. Lloyd Irish made several fine saves to prevent Poole from going further ahead before Town were reduced to ten men after 56 minutes when Pierce Mitchell was sent off for his second yellow card. After a Brooks’ header had hit the bar, numbers were evened up when Poole skipper Jamie Whisken was also dismissed on 62 minutes for his second caution. However Town never looked likely to get something from the game as Poole continued to threaten, with Sam Griffin heading against the bar. A disappointing afternoon saw the Peacocks slip down the table to fifth place so they will be looking to make amends when they travel to Dorchester Town on Tuesday evening.

Reaction | Rob Dray commented: “I’m hugely disappointed today, not for the lack of trying but following up big games is something that is high on my priority list and we didn’t do it. There are no excuses, we had to be better in both boxes but weren’t. On the positive side if somebody had offered me fifth position after ten games in a new division and the last qualifying round of the FA Cup then I would have taken it. It’s a big week now with a chance to put a must win on the board on Tuesday followed by the FA Cup on Saturday.”

Skipper Shane White said: “We were off it. We had some big players missing but we were never really in it for some reason. It’s a shame as we were so good on Wednesday and then to put that performance in is disappointing. I’m sure we will put it right with a better display on Tuesday and we’re still up there in the mix where we want to be.”
