The Peacocks play their final home fixture of the Evo-Stik League season when they welcome Merthyr Town to the Viridor Stadium tomorrow afternoon (22nd April), kick-off 3.00pm.

Yesterday’s 3-2 win at Hendon maintained Town’s tenancy of second spot and with leaders Weymouth only snatching a late equaliser to draw with Chesham the gap between the sides has been reduced to three points. Although the Terras are still the favourites to claim the crown they face a testing encounter at Poole Town tomorrow who are vying for the final Play-Off position with Kings Langley.

The Peacocks will also be mindful that an Easter Monday victory will guarantee them home advantage for the semi-finals of the Play-Offs on Wednesday week so there can be no undertones of complacency against a Merthyr side which can be a match for any team in the division on their day. The Martyrs were in the shake-up for a place in the Play-Offs themselves until a run of only two wins from their last twelve games has seen them to fall to 13th spot. The earlier meeting between the sides in Wales on New Year’s Day saw Town suffer a 3-1 defeat with only Ed Palmer’s consolation goal to show from a disappointing afternoon which the Peacocks will aim to redress tomorrow.

Ollie Chamberlain returns to an otherwise unchanged squad after missing the Hendon game through illness. Head of Football Rob Dray commented: ”Tomorrow is another test, but confidence is high after a really good win on Saturday. Merthyr are a tough side and we haven’t forgotten we owe them one after the January result but we’re keeping the title alive and who knows it may go to the last game but whatever happens, what a season it’s been!”

The Martyrs enjoyed a good start to 2019 with a 3-1 victory over the Peacocks on New Years Day.
